John enjoys helping clients firstly identify what their underlying issues actually are, whether family member, business manager/employee or owner, and secondly, help them to take the practical steps that will resolve those needs in a bespoke fashion. He is not interested in selling a product to a client but seeks to draw alongside and incisively help them solve their fundamental and important succession and strategic planning issues in a sensitive and confidential fashion. He facilitates informed discussions where issues can be addressed as objectively and respectfully as possible.

John’s Background

John qualified as an English solicitor in 2001 wanting to help business owners make prudent and effective business decisions based not just on his legal knowledge but also be empathic to his client’s circumstances and seek to understand the bigger picture from a commercial perspective.

Although he was progressing in the City of London and internationally with top New York and London law firms, he soon became conscious that the role of a lawyer in many transactions was often relatively narrow and at a late stage in the process.

Living and working as an international lawyer in Poland, the Czech Republic and particularly Ukraine, enabled him to make a more practical and effective difference engaging with the fundamental needs of clients and often helping them take the wider view by understanding the complexities of the local market from a political and economic standpoint too when appropriate.

Since leaving legal practice, he has taken the time to pursue and develop several complementary tasks to enable him to provide effective and efficient advice holistically.

To this end, he has advised family and charitable enterprises on succession and business planning issues and obtained the STEP Advanced Certificate in Family Business Advising (Distinction, 96%, STEP Excellence Award, December 2017, for highest mark worldwide); he has obtained the ICAEW’s Certificate in Finance, Accounting & Business by completing the first 6 modules of the ICAEW chartered accountancy qualification (average mark 80%) to supplement his financial and accounting knowledge; he has also taken several private client related legal training courses in conjunction with carrying out the administration and distribution of his own parents’ estate and dealing with other family related issues.
